Chapter Eleven

Ares felt as if his body were being pulled inside out. He had no idea what was going on and it truly terrified him. His head no longer felt like it was going to explode, but it was still throbbing painfully.

Bathing in sweat, Ares struggled to stand. His knees shook, and then he collapsed back onto the floor. He had no idea what was happening to him. Ares felt as weak as a newborn babe.

He wasn’t sure where Daniel had gone, but Ares had felt the immediate loss. Rolling over to his side, he clutched his stomach. The pain was excruciating as it radiated throughout his entire body.

What’s wrong with me?

When Ares opened his eyes, he found the room unfocused. Everything seemed to be in black and white. He tried his best to blink his eyes and bring color back to the room but his body was racked with another wave of pain.

“Oh my.”

Ares’s head snapped up, spotting three men in the room. A growl ripped from his lips as he pushed to his hands and knees.

“Ares, it’s me, Daniel. I brought help.”

Shaking his head back and forth, Ares tried to clear his mind. It felt as if instinct were taking over, burying who Ares was. His focus started to slip again and Ares fought past the fog. “What’s wrong with me?”

“I haven’t a damn clue,” one of the men said. “I’ve never seen anything like this.”

That was not reassuring.

“How did this happen?” the same man asked.

“We, uh…” Daniel fumbled over his words.

“It doesn’t matter.” Ares growled the words. “Just figure out what in the fuck is wrong with me.”

“I’m Dr. Sheehan, and a little niceness would go a long way.” The doctor moved closer, kneeling next to Ares. “I’m just trying to figure out how this happened.”

“We had sex,” Daniel blurted out. “I fed from him and then he dropped to the floor in pain.”

“This is beyond my expertise,” Dr. Sheehan admitted. He waved his hands at Ares’s body. “And I’m pretty sure the alpha wouldn’t approve of me bringing you back to the Den for examination.”

“Why not?” Daniel asked with panic in his tone. “You have to help him.”

“I need Dr. Carmichael in on this one.” Dr. Sheehan stood and took a step back. “Again, this is out of the realm of my expertise.”

Daniel’s scent flooded Ares’s nostrils as the man moved closer and then knelt down at Ares’s side. His hand brushed over Ares’s head. “We’ll figure this out.”

Ares raised one hand, showing Daniel the long, black, thick claws. “I don’t think anyone can tell me what has happened.”

It didn’t escape Ares’s notice that his hand and arm were furry. He didn’t want to think about that right now. He could hear the doctor talking on the phone as Daniel brushed his hand down Ares’s back. The chaos rioting inside of him seemed to calm at Daniel’s touch.

“You look so…weird,” Daniel said in a bemused tone.

“Thanks,” Ares bit out.

“I’m just trying to take your mind off what’s happening,” Daniel said.
